Here?
Mt. Tengu is a mountain located near the city center of Otaru, and it is a tourist spot with an observation deck and a ski resort.
In addition, the night view seen from the observation deck of Mt. Tengu is one of the three major night views of Hokkaido, along with "Mt. Moiwa" in Sapporo and "Mt. Hakodate" in Hakodate.
Tengu are legendary creatures that have been handed down from ancient times in Japan.
How do I get to the summit of Mt. Tengu?
There are ways to get to the summit by "riding the ropeway" or "driving to the parking lot near the summit".
※ As I will say later, I think that the ropeway is good because the road to the summit is closed to traffic for winter.
Ride the Otaru Tenguyama Ropeway
If you are going by ropeway, there are several free parking lots that are located near the bus station, so this may be recommended if you are visiting for s
ightseeing. There is a ropeway ride next to the large building (Otaru Tenguyama Ski School) next to the first parking lot.

Drive to the parking lot near the summit
You can drive to the summit of Mt. Tengu, but the road is closed to traffic during the winter.
When I went, there was a signboard that I could not pass through from November 8, 2018 to April 18, 2019 at the entrance of the road toward the summit.
I think that you can climb in other seasons, but if you look at the map, the road is narrow. I think it's pitch black at night, so if you're confident in driving, you may want to climb here.
The center of the map below is the entrance of the road to the observation deck.

What's at the top of Mt. Tengu?
Here?
There are 5 observatories where you can see the night view, free facilities such as Tengu no Yakata, Tenguyama Gallery, and Otaru Ski Museum, a cafe where you can see the scenery, and a shop where you can buy souvenirs.
Mt. Tengu Observation Deck
Here?
There are five observation decks near the summit of Mt. Tengu: "Rooftop Observatory", "Tengu Cherry Blossom Observatory", and "1st, 2nd and 3rd Observation Decks".
Rooftop Observation Deck
Here?
It is located in a high place, and I think that it is the highest in the observation deck of Mt. Tengu.
It is a place where you can see the night view well, and it is easy because it is the roof of the building. If you want to take a picture of the city in a wide angle, the building may be in the picture a little. (By location?) )
Tenguzakura Observatory
Here?
The night view is also good and it is recommended.
It is right next to the ropeway station. In winter, the ground is covered with snow. You can see the city of Otaru across the slope of the mountain.
Point
There is a "tengu cherry tree" that is over 100 years old and it is lit up.
1st Observation Deck
Here?
This is also right next to the ropeway station.
I think I can copy it with the ropeway.
When taking pictures of the night view, the shutter speed is increased, so I think that the ropeway will be like a line of light.
You can copy the ropeway and the cityscape of Otaru, so it may be recommended during the day.
2nd Observation Deck
Here?
Because there are few people, you can slowly see the night view. I think it's a small place.
If you look at the official website, it is said that "it is closed in winter", but I was possible to go in early April.
It is dark and hard to see, but the sign with a signboard saying Tengu Chaya is a landmark.
3rd Observatory
Here?
It was said that it would be closed in winter, but it was early April.
It is located in the farthest place in the observation deck, and the view of the mountain is the main observation deck, so you can hardly see the city of Otaru.
Parking lot of Mt. Tengu
There is also a parking lot near the summit, but since the road is narrow, it is recommended to park at the free parking lot near the ropeway stop at the foot of the mountain and climb by ropeway.
